Compounding

Sometimes the way you take your medicine is just as
important as what you take - that is why Wilson Pharmacy
offers compounding. As described below, compounding refers to the patient-specific preparation and form
of a medication. For example, a pill for an upset stomach might not be the best way to take a medicine,
especially if our compounding pharmacy can offer you a gel that you simply rub on your skin.
What is Compounding?
Compounding combines an ageless art with the latest medical knowledge and state-of-the-art technology
to customize medication to meet each patient's specific need. Compounding is the foundation to the
pharmacy profession, and was at one time the standard way to provide prescription medications -before
pharmaceutical mass-production came onto the healthcare landscape. The demand for compounding has
increased as healthcare professionals and patients realize that the limited number of commercially-available
dosage forms and strengths do not meet the needs of all patients. Our team of professionals has received
specialized training in the art and science of compounding that enables them to prepare customized
medications uniquely for you or your animal.
Benefits of Compounding
Compounding can be as simple as flavoring a medication or as complex as taking a tablet and
suspending it in a liquid or cream. These, along with patient-specific dosing, are among the
most valuable benefits our compounding pharmacy offers its patients. Additionally, we specialize
in providing medications that are in short supply or backordered, discontinued, or otherwise
commercially unavailable to help avoid interruption in patient care. Here is a categorical

Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy
Bio-identical hormones have the same chemical structure as hormones that are made by the human body. The term
bio-identical does not indicate the source of the hormone, but rather
the chemical structure. In order for a replacement hormone to fully replicate the function of hormones which
were originally naturally produced and present in the human body, the chemical structure must exactly match the
original. Bio-identical hormones are able to follow normal metabolic pathways so that essential active metabolites
are formed in response to hormone replacement therapy.
